*HES Book Fair: During Parent Teacher Conferences, our Librarian, Mrs. Gaona, will be running the book fair in the library!

Wednesday 10/18 and Thursday 10/19 from 3:30-7 pm. Be sure to stop by!

*HES Fall Carnival: Will be Thursday 10/26 from 4:30-6 pm at HES! Please bring the whole family to play games, visit the photo booth, have snacks and more! It should be a great time! ALSO kids can wear their Halloween costumes! (please remember no blood, fake weapons, etc since this is a school supported event, masks are OK)

*Halloween Costume Donations: As we approach Halloween and our school parade, we have a need for boy costumes of any size, and girl costume items in larger (3rd-5th grade) sizes. If you have any to donate before 10/31, we’d appreciate it!

-Parents ~ You are our #1 partner in your child’s education and growth. We need your support and trust in this journey.

-Good Days and Bad Days ~ I PROMISE you, your child will have great days, and your child will have bad days. That is part of being a kid and part of growing up.

*Feria del Libro de HES: ¡Durante las conferencias de padres y maestros, nuestra bibliotecaria, la Sra. Gaona, organizará la feria del libro en la biblioteca! Miércoles 10/18 y jueves 10/19 de 15:30 a 19:30 horas. ¡Asegúrate de pasar por aquí!

*Carnaval de Otoño de HES: ¡Será el jueves 26 de octubre de 4:30 a 6 pm en HES! ¡Traiga a toda la familia para jugar, visitar el fotomatón, comer refrigerios y más! ¡Debería ser un gran momento! ¡TAMBIÉN los niños pueden usar sus disfraces de Halloween! (recuerde no usar sangre, armas falsas, etc. ya que este es un evento patrocinado por la escuela)

*Donaciones de disfraces de Halloween: A medida que nos acercamos a Halloween y a nuestro desfile escolar, necesitamos disfraces para niños de cualquier talla y artículos de disfraces para niñas en tallas más grandes (de 3.º a 5.º grado). Si tienes alguno para donar antes del 31/10, ¡te lo agradeceríamos!

Music with Mrs. Mundfrom: 

Hello Husky Families!  The music room has been buzzing with the sounds of tubano drums, xylophones, shakers and music makers! We are all working on rhythm and organized sound with instruments and sometimes without instruments depending on our time in class.  The Kinders and 1st graders have been working on voice exploration and body movement with Pete the Cat and have worked with egg shakers, maracas, sticks and castanets.  The 2nd and 3rd grades have been working on tubanos and xylophones and the 4th and 5th graders have been on movement and keyboards and ukuleles together!  We are in our strings unit so a lot of our music that we get to listen to has something to do with stringed instruments and different types of music that use strings. Be sure to ask your student what song they’ve liked the best so far!  These kiddos are such fast learners and pick up new ideas so quickly.  The arts wing will be open during conferences if you’d like to swing by for a chat! 

For your calendar: 3rd grade concert is on Thursday, Nov. 9 in the HS Cafetorium. See you there! 

Art with Mrs. Gangestad:

The art studio has been busy creating all kinds of art!  Since our last update, students have completed their color theory lessons along with learning all about line designs.  Keeping in theme with learning about the seven elements of art, we are now focusing on shapes.  Our shape projects all come with a seasonal twist as they are fall or Halloween related.  Kindergarten students are creating pumpkin faces by using different shapes for the eyes, nose and mouth.  First graders are having fun with Piet Mondrain inspired spider web designs.  Our second graders are making fall tree designs by using various shapes for the leaves.  Third graders have been hard at work creating halloween inspired mosaics.  Similarly, stained glass window art is being made by fourth graders using black paper and chalk pastels. The fifth grade classes are having a good time making their Tim Burton style self portraits.  Students have really surprised me with how creative they are!  Stop by the “specials” wing of the school during conferences to see some of the latest artwork on display in the hallway!  

P.E. with Miss Tremaine: 

Fall is upon us and that means it’s the perfect time to focus on improving our physical fitness! 1st graders recently ran their Husky quarter-mile, 2nd and 3rd graders ran their Husky half-miles, and 4th and 5th graders completed their Husky miles. At parent-teacher conferences, swing by the Husky Hall of Fame and see just how fast our Huskies are! October will be filled with many fall-themed games and activities that will help us improve our strength, flexibility, and endurance. Students of all grades can look forward to games such as Ghostbusters, Pumpkin Patch Tag, The Great Acorn Hunt, and other fall/Halloween-inspired activities!

Música con la Sra. Mundfrom: 

¡Hola familias de perros esquimales! La sala de música ha estado a tope con los sonidos detubano ¡Baterías, xilófonos, maracas y creadores de música! Todos estamos trabajando el ritmo y el sonido organizado con instrumentos y a veces sin instrumentos dependiendo de nuestro tiempo en clase. Los alumnos de Kinder y 1er grado han estado trabajando en la exploración de la voz y el movimiento corporal con Pete the Cat y han trabajado con huevos, maracas, palos y castañuelas. ¡Los de 2.º y 3.º grado han estado trabajando en tubanos y xilófonos y los alumnos de 4.º y 5.º grado han estado trabajando en movimiento, teclados y ukeleles juntos! Estamos en nuestra unidad de cuerdas, por lo que mucha de la música que escuchamos tiene algo que ver con instrumentos de cuerda y diferentes tipos de música que usan cuerdas. ¡Asegúrese de preguntarle a su estudiante qué canción le ha gustado más hasta ahora! Estos niños aprenden muy rápido y captan nuevas ideas muy rápidamente. ¡El ala de artes estará abierta durante las conferencias si desea pasar a charlar!

Para su calendario: el concierto de 3er grado será el jueves 9 de noviembre en la cafetería de HS. ¡Te veo allí!

Arte con la Sra. Gangestad:

¡El estudio de arte ha estado ocupado creando todo tipo de arte! Desde nuestra última actualización, los estudiantes han completado sus lecciones de teoría del color y han aprendido todo sobre los diseños de líneas. Siguiendo con el tema de aprender sobre los siete elementos del arte, ahora nos centraremos en las formas. Todos nuestros proyectos de formas vienen con un toque estacional, ya que están relacionados con el otoño o Halloween. Los estudiantes de jardín de infantes están creando caras de calabazas usando diferentes formas para los ojos, la nariz y la boca. Los estudiantes de primer grado se divierten con diseños de telarañas inspirados en Piet Mondrain. Nuestros alumnos de segundo grado están haciendo diseños de árboles otoñales usando varias formas para las hojas. Los estudiantes de tercer grado han trabajado arduamente creando mosaicos inspirados en Halloween. De manera similar, los alumnos de cuarto grado están haciendo vidrieras usando papel negro y tiza pastel. Las clases de quinto grado se lo están pasando bien haciendo sus autorretratos al estilo Tim Burton. ¡Los estudiantes realmente me han sorprendido con lo creativos que son! Pase por el ala de “especiales” de la escuela durante las conferencias para ver algunas de las últimas obras de arte expuestas en el pasillo.

EDUCACIÓN FÍSICA. con la señorita Tremaine:

¡El otoño está sobre nosotros y eso significa que es el momento perfecto para concentrarnos en mejorar nuestra condición física! Los estudiantes de primer grado corrieron recientemente su cuarto de milla Husky, los de segundo y tercer grado corrieron media milla con Husky y los de cuarto y quinto grado completaron sus millas Husky. En las conferencias de padres y maestros, visite el Salón de la Fama de los Huskys y vea cómorápido ¡Nuestros Huskies lo son! Octubre estará lleno de muchos juegos y actividades con temas de otoño que nos ayudarán a mejorar nuestra fuerza, flexibilidad y resistencia. ¡Los estudiantes de todos los grados pueden esperar juegos como Ghostbusters, Pumpkin Patch Tag, The Great Acorn Hunt y otras actividades inspiradas en el otoño/Halloween!
